To conduct the test using the cupping testing machine, you can easily prepare the sample. For this, you can take a piece of a sample of a test specimen which you need to test. Whenever you head towards conducting the test, then make sure that the testing sample you take should not have a thickness of more than 2 mm.   • Insert the Zero plate in the sample holder slot and adjust the zero plate with the ball surface.
  • Adjust the dial gauge to zero (0) at this position.
  • Remove the Zero plate and fit it in your job sample in the slot provided.
  • Tighten the sample through the Front-wheel handle.
  • Now test the sample by rotating its side gear handle.
  • View the condition of the sheet manually from the front side.
  • Tighten the punching ball to the end position of the spindle bush.
  • Always keep a view at the dial gauge to check the correct stiffness of the sheet.
  • On failure of the sample, note the reading on the dial indicator/gauge.
  • Release the pressure by moving the bigger gear wheel in the anticlockwise direction and then release the smaller gear wheel.
  • Remove the sample from the sample holder slot.
  • Analyze the test specimen for any kind of cracks.

The depth of the cup is measured. The Erichsen Cupping Machine is used to check the draw ability of sheet metal components and is manufactured strictly in compliance with ISO standards. The machine has a standard ball that is made to penetrate through a clamped sample sheet up to 2 mm thickness.

The main purpose of this testing machine is to determine the deep-drawing capability of sheet metals in accordance with (DIN EN 10139 and DIN EN 10130), which have a thickness of 0.1 mm to 2 mm and a width of 90 mm or more. Deep drawing (stretch forming) is the name given to the deformation process of sheet metal under biaxial stress. The sheet is deformed with a rigid tool. The sheet to be tested is clamped between the sheet holder and the die and formed with a hardened ball punch. This process is continued at a specified speed until a fine, continuous crack appears in the sheet. The distance traveled by the ball punch to the crack is referred to as the indentation value "IE" (in mm) and represents an important quality feature of the tested sheet metal.
