How to Measure Color Quality of Textiles?

Textile Industry is one of the booming sectors all across the globe. The demand for the high-quality textile product is day by day increasing among the customers due to style and fashion. This demand is exploding to a next level. The manufacturers are now competing at a very big level to build a strong customer base by offering high-quality products that are provided to the customers. If a manufacturer does not offer high-quality products to the customers, there is no chance that it can survive the difficult competition in the market.

Significance of Colors in Textile Industry

The color is a major factor that signifies the quality of the textile products. The manufacturers need to offer best quality products so that more and more customers get attracted towards the products. In order to assure that the color quality of the products is best, manufacturers need to perform certain color measurement procedures that can assure that the products offer best color quality, the manufacturers need to make use of high-quality of color measurement instruments and solutions that can assure the color quality of the products.

Appearance of Colors in Textile Industries

Products have a significant effect on the overall quality of the products. It severely affects the buying behavior of the customers. The color of the products is a major component that affects the appearance of the products. If the color quality is not good, then the product will also not appear to be good. The color quality of the products is determined under different light conditions. If the color of a product appears to be same in different lights, it is perfect in terms of quality.

Metamerism – Major Color Defect

The color of the product is greatly affected by Metamerism. It is a phenomenon, in which the products appeared different under different light conditions and considered as a major quality flaw in the product quality. To check or ensure that the product appears to be same in all lighting conditions, manufacturers make use of high-quality color matching cabinets. These cabinets show real light conditions inside the testing laboratories and help the manufacturers to test the color quality of the products. These cabinets are widely used in different production verticals, such as paint and plating, automotive, food and beverage industry, textile industry and many more.

The testing instrument helps to eliminate the problem of Metamerism, but it also helps to assure that lots of products are manufactured by the same company and offers same color consistency. There are several light conditions that are provided in a single machine to create artificial light conditions that replicate the actual and real lights.

Color Matching Cabinet (CMC) – For Color Measurement

Color Matching Cabinets that are designed and assembled by the reputed manufacturer are widely used in different textile industries to match the color of different products under different light conditions. These instruments are used to eliminate the phenomenon of Metamerism completely. It helps the manufacturers to produce high-quality products with better color consistency. The testing device is available in three different colors such as USA model, Euro model and Asia Model. There are numerous light sources that are equipped with different instruments that help to match the instrument with a high rate of repeatability and better accuracy. These lights include D-65 daylight, Cool White Florescent, INCAA, Ultraviolet black light, and Tungsten Fluorescent Light, TL-84.

How is the test performed using CMC?

To perform the test using CMC, a test sample is placed under different lights as these lights show actual light conditions of respective regions. Moreover, the instrument is provided with individual operating switched which allows the users to operate every light individually. In this manner, the user can study the color of the samples under the single light as well as can study the light in multiple lights at a single point in time. The color matching cabinets are also provided with time totalizers which help the users to note down the actual time which is spent on the sample to measure the color of the fabric and hence used in different textile industries. The manufacturers can surely provide best and high-quality colors to the customers with best quality product.

Lights Used in CMC for Color Measurement

  • D65– The light is used to create artificial daylight in the testing laboratory in order to match the appearance of the products in different lights.
  • TFL light- Tungsten light uses greyish white color filament for producing high-quality light with high color temperature and offers a yellow light.
  • CWF light- CWF means cool white fluorescent light which discharges green energy and is majorly used in US zone to test the color consistency of samples.
  • UV black light– Ultra Violet black light is used for inspecting the whiteness of textile samples.
  • TL 84– TL 84 is Triphosphor fluorescent light is used to produce reddish light during the test procedure to test the quality of the test samples.
  • Ultra Loom light– This light is also used to produce yellowish red light but with a lower color
  • INCAA light-This light is used when the yellowish red light is required to test the samples.
