Standard Test Method for Carbon Black In Olefin Plastics

The standard covers the method to determine carbon black content in polypropylene, polyethylene, and Polybutylene plastics. The method is applied to acrylic and other polar monomer modifications which affect the accuracy and hence not considered. Determination of carbon black content is done gravimetrically after pyrolysis of the test specimen under nitrogen. This test method is not applicable to materials that contain: Fillers or non-volatile pigments other than particles of carbon black and Brominated flame retardant chemicals at the end. The results obtained by the standard test method are useful for calculation of optical absorptivity and for control purposes.
