Testing Heat Seal Parameters using Accurate Heat Sealer

Testing Heat Seal Parameters using Accurate Heat Sealer

For a wide range of products, a good packaging plays a vital role in deciding its shelf life and safety. The technical team at the packaging industry categorizes the material properties of a package in terms of its functional and barrier characteristics. Along with this, the biggest risk to package integrity is the heat seal or closure failures. The parameters of the heat seal can be easily evaluated by applying the formula of heat scalability, which equals to the addition of temperature, pressure and time. Maintaining an optimum heat sealing conditions in the production line and detecting the reason behind a low-quality sealing remains a challenge for many manufacturers. Testing heat sealing parameters are conducted by generating controlled sealing conditions using a calibrated Laboratory Heat Sealer.

Why do we need to test the heat seal parameters?

The product packagers mostly depend upon their film supplier for conducting an assured heat seal test or they trust their operators to turn up the temperature level in case the seals are not forming properly. This type of activities can lead to seal failures throughout the supply chain, which can damage the brand image and reduce profit level.

Whereas packagers who conduct a standardized heat seal test on the daily basis of incoming film and install this process as a part of their quality system will be able to transfer the required quality to the customers. One should not get dependent on their suppliers for the same as the sealing parameters can differ widely from one supplier to another, one roll two other film rolls, and even within the same roll of a film. Even a minute difference in the ceiling parameters can affect the quality of the seals. A low-quality testing can deliver weak seals, channel leaks, edge leaks, back seal, hardened brittle areas due to overheating, and unsealed areas due to low-heating.

The Heat sealer present by Presto is a standardized and highly accurate testing instrument utilized for conducting heat sealing on flexible packaging products and other thermoplastic materials through the application of pressure and heat at high temperatures. It complies with the standards of ASTM F 2029.

Key features offered by the machine:

  • Microprocessor-based display for conducting live test analysis.
  • Deliver accurate test results using pneumatic pressure control.
  • The single push-button operation for a user-friendly.
  • Equipped with strong heating jaws.
