Fatigue Test Testing Instruments

Fatigue test is mainly used to measure the product’s ability to resist cyclic fatigue circumstances. A product is chosen according to its design to meet various service loads that are expected in such testing applications. Also, cyclic fatigue test continuously creates loading and unloading without any break in compression, torsion and bending. A test specimen is loaded onto a machine to perform a test, using fixed test strain and then unloaded to either zero load or an opposite load. The test is run on the basis of a predetermined number of cycles until the sample failed in accordance with the parameters of the test.

Objective of fatigue testing:
Generally the purpose of this test is to measure the lifespan of a product that a user expects subjected to cyclic shipment, however crack resistance and fatigue strength are commonly required results as well. The fatigue strength of a material is determined with the total number of cycles that a material can bear under single loading and unloading scheme. The test is used to determine the maximum load that a sample can endure for a specific number of cycles. All these factors are quite important in all production verticals where a material can fluctuate instead of constant forces.

Types of fatigue tests:
There are many types of fatigue testing that includes two common forms of fatigue tests, i.e. strain controlled low cycle fatigue and load controlled high cycle fatigue tests. A high cycle test is associated with loads in the elasticity measurement and low cycle fatigue tests usually include plastic deformations.
