How to Evaluate Puncture Resistance of Foam Wraps?

Foam wraps are usually utilized to wrap delicate product such glasswares and crockery while they are in storage or in transit. The wraps selected for this application are thick and strong. They are designed to withstand flat impacts, abrasion and compression. However, encountering a sharp edge or any pointed object the foam wraps can be easily punctured. The opening will allow the entry or exit of material leading to harmful effects to the product and reduced shelf-life. Presto Stantest brings you a simple yet highly advanced testing solution for inspecting foam wrap quality.

Puncture Tester is specifically designed for testing resistance against puncture causing impact. Suitable for packaging film and sheets. The equipment complies with TAPPI –T803, ISO 3036 and ASTM D781 test standard and is constructed using repute-level of material. Equipped with hi-tech, microprocessor based digital controls, which ensure accuracy in testing process and converts force applied into numerical values. The test results can be observed on a bright LED screen. It is considered to be the best penetration resistance calculator.

High accuracy in test is ensured with application of uniform compression force. Strong clamping offered to assure zero slippage. 90 degree angle puncture test available. Inbuilt Calibration Facility is also available. Feather touch control buttons to set test parameters. The test is conducted in a continuous manner. Single handed operation ensure low complexity.

In the test process, the foam wrap sample is cut out in a circular shape and placed between the clamping fixtures. Post clamping the specimen must be tightened. Switch on the equipment, set test parameters. Place specified load on the piercing arm and set the angle of throw. Release the arm and let it pierce the specimen sheet. Record the applied force.

With this test, manufacturer can assure the quality of their wraps are tested ok under various test standards. Even using a standardized test method, one can guarantee the quality will never be rejected across the globe.
